Things That Hurt is the touching story of the Lewis family and their passionate battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Upon retirement, Edward and Ramona Lewis dream of leaving the family house to their children Ronald and Karen and move to Florida. However, both of the children have plans and lives of their own.
What the children do not know is that Edward has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and Ramona is secretly nursing an alcohol addiction. As Edward’s life deteriorates he falls under the care of home health aide, Beverly. Under Beverly’s supervision, Edward routinely goes missing and the family finds him constantly going back to the family home.
Edward laments the passing of better days and the loss of his memory while the others mourn the past, which distorts the value of the remaining time they have together. As Edward considers assisted death, he begins to take comfort in the pictures he has taken over the years.
