Loft Art Productions presents Will Calhoun, Grammy Award-winning drummer from Living Colour, as part of the Tea Series, a monthly jazz and tea series at Theaterlab. Will Calhoun's solo Electronic/Acoustic, Ambient/Visual Performance, exploring the sonic history of traditional drumming and ancestral grooves with the birth of technology. Expect to see and hear a wide range of the Calhoun arsenal in this mesmerizing performance, including an eclectic array of electronics, drums, and indigenous flutes, with arresting visuals featuring his photography from research abroad. In addition to his work with Living Colour. Will has released three CDs, including the Grammy nominated jazz CD The Will Calhoun Quintet: Live at the Blue Note, The New Danger with the band Black Jack Johnson (featuring Mos Def, Funkadelic keyboardist Bernie Worrell, Doug Wimbish on bass, Bad Brains guitarist Doc Know) and Native Lands. The latter album is jazz meets world, coupled with trance-inducing urban music. Among those contributing are Pharaoh Sanders, Mos Def, Buster Williams, Stanley Jordan, Kevin Eubanks, Marcus Miller and Wallace Roney, as well as Nana Vasconcelos from Brazil and Cheick Tidiane Seck from Mali.
