The Roar of the Greasepaint – The Smell of the Crowd

About the Show

George S. Irving stars as Sir in Musicals Tonight!’s production of The Roar of the Greasepaint – The Smell of the Crowd, the 1965 musical by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley. In this allegorical work, the irrepressible Cocky and the imperious Sir play the “game of life” in a small arena-like area. Cocky always plays by the rules, while the conniving Sir simply ignores them and goes on his own way. Toward the end of the musical, Cocky, with the help of the Negro, begins to assert himself, and eventually he and Sir agree that the “game” should be a tie.
