New York City
The Price of Pearls and Other Stories
$10.00, public; $5.00, students
The Price of Pearls and Other Stories, adapted and directed by Erica Schmidt from Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales, is a unique theater piece that struggles with the variety (and inconsistency) of human behavior. While Schmidt utilizes Chaucer’s classic text, she also incorporates different periods and settings–including modern-day New York City, and illustrates both the timelessness and the importance of these universal tales.
A literal pilgrimage for the characters, The Price of Pearls and Other Stories also parallels theater’s own pilgrimage; in both cases, the journey aims to establish personal connection and identity. Eight stories are represented by fully-realized vignettes rife with characters and conflicts.
