About This Show

Feinstein’s at the Regency present the return engagement of “The First Family of Cool,” The Pizzarelli Family, in their new show Bossa Nova. The John Pizzarelli Trio, featuring Ray Kennedy on piano and Martin Pizzarelli on bass, will be joined by guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli, singer Jessica Molaskey and Daniel Jobim, the grandson of composer Antonio Carlos Jobim.

The show is based on Pizzarelli’s fifth Telarc CD, Bossa Nova, which features a wide variety of music ranging from brash to introverted, and includes Brazilian standards and recently composed songs. Bossa Nova overflows with highlights including Antonio Carlos Jobim songs “One Note Samba,” “The Girl from Ipanema,” “Waters of March” and “Desafinado”; a jaunty reading of Gershwin’s “Fascinating Rhythm”; Pizzarelli originals, “Francesca” and “Soares Samba”; and fresh interpretations of James Taylor’s top 40 hit “Your Smiling Face” and Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim’s “I Remember.” Bossa nova is the most personal and international of Brazil’s musical forms. Its “cool” aesthetic – with its gentle rhythms, rich harmonies and seductive delivery – is a perfect match for Pizzarelli’s smooth and casual style.

Jackets are suggested but not required.
