Was it a sign from the heavens? Or simply an audio aberration? A carp, in a small urban fish store, seems to have shouted out a few mysterious words just as he was about to be beheaded and turned into gelfilte fish for the picky Mrs. Farbstein. Is it a miracle, a hoax, or a hustle? In J.B. Heaps’ The Pisces Encounter, an elderly Jewish store owner and his Puerto Rican helper – along with a con man, fat reporter, disturbed teenager, and assortment of other characters – conspire and collide hoping to make dollars and sense over the eternal questions: Is there a God? And, if so, how can He help me?
