About This Show

The Phoenix Does Rise tells the story of Phoenix, who’s childhood encounter with a racially charged verbal incident sets into motion an opinion of self that splits her persona and follows her throughout her collegiate years. Written by Suzette Azariah Gunn and directed by Stacy Waring, the story is told in flashbacks and staged in the style of a choreo-poem; engaging singing, dancing, live music and spoken word.
