About This Show

The Imaginary, All-True Leni Riefenstahl Show is a play about a woman seeking to make sense of her fascination with the gifted, controversial Leni Riefenstahl, widely considered the greatest female film director in history. Not only does the play examine Leni’s life, but it considers what it might have been had she not become the Third Reich’s official documentarian. Veering from a straightforward documentary-style to comedy, anarchy, and absurdity — think Charlie Kaufman films and Chuck Jones cartoons — the play asks whether it is possible to separate an artist’s sheer brilliance from the sheer horrors for which it was used.

This performance is presented as part of the New York International Fringe Festival.
