Renowned art photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto creates a stunning backdrop with his highly acclaimed “The Seascapes” series for the set of the contemporary noh play The Hawk Princess (Takahime). Based on W. B. Yeats’ At the Hawk’s Well (which itself was inspired by noh plays and imagery), The Hawk Princess was written in 1967 by respected noh musicologist Mario Yokomichi. The story follows an old man and a prince, both in search of a rumored fountain of eternal youth, guarded by a mysterious and beautiful young woman. The innovative staging is a beautiful blend of the noh tradition with a nod to Irish mythology and Greek tragedy.
