About This Show

Orgies, cross-dressing, and unbridled lust are all part of a day’s work to the great Greek God of Wine and Revelry, Dionysus, in Cypreco of America’s new translation of Euripides The Bacchae to tour Manhattan and Queens. This lusty adaptation which touches on humankind’s battle with its’ own vanity has free showings at over 15 venues including Bryant Park and the Cyprus Consulate.

The plot centers on the arrival on earth of the God of physical freedom, Dionysus, who arrives in human form to bring his gospel to the people of the town of Thebes. He is met with opposition from their king, Pentheus, who captures and tortures him. His deed unleashes the superhuman priestesses of this God who wage war against the king and the men of Thebes. The graphically depicted war that ensues becomes a parable of today’s own tense international climate.
