About This Show

Living Pictures presents Strange Meeting – Poetry of the Great War, with period Songs and large-scale Images. Created & directed by Mignon Smith, the show features the poetry of Wilfred Owen, Robert W. Service, Siegfried Sassoon, Alan Seeger & others.

World War 1 ignited the talents of some of the greatest poets of the
20th century and, for the first time, they stripped war of its
romanticism and revealed instead its grim realities, its bitter ironies. This poetry deals with war experiences: life in the trenches, death,
rapprochements between enemy soldiers, battles, the wars aftermath for
survivors, those left behind. The period songs are by turns rollicking,
sentimental, and bawdy.
