New York City
The Sanitation Chronicles is a “slice of life” play. What makes it different from other such shows is the particular “slice” it portrays. Taking place in a sanitation garage in New York City, the play follows a group of Sanmen – and the prostitute and wife who lost their husbands on the job – through part of their day, allowing the audience to learn their prejudices and sometimes witness their anger and violence. Things come to a boil when one of the men appears dressed as a woman…
Each character has his or her own personal monologue and the opportunity to speak directly to the audience. Although the language and material are sometimes raw, the audience is given a truthful look into the characters’ humanity and the play ends on a hopeful note.
