About the Show

This production is based on the medieval legend collection called “Gesta Romanorum” as well as on Thomas Mann’s novels Doctor Faustus”and The Chosen. Referring to the universal theme of the Western civilization, the play searches for truth about the essence of humanity. It reflects on the Oedipus myth, so basic to the European culture. Tomaszuk, re-interpreting the Oedipus myth and the work of Thomas Mann, asks the contemporary spectator a question of what human sexuality really is. In Saint Oedipus the body becomes a trap, the sign of doom, reality that reigns over man completely, but it is cursed reality, too. This production has great visual appeal, filled with fascinating music. It is a psychedelic game between two actors, a man and a woman, mother and son.
