About the Show

Original and passionate, Sacred Hearts: Two Plays About Women and the Love that Lays Them Low presents the quietly tragic The Love Song of Eleanor Purdy by Germaine Netzband and Susannah Nolan’s provocative The Truth About Love – two plays about the corrosive power of love.

Directed by Michael Raimondi, The Love Song of Eleanor Purdy explores what happens when two girlfriends who have held on to each other since college realize they no longer have anything in common. Has one sold out or is the other unable to grow up? And what happens to love when an evening of pizza, beer and Harrison Ford turns into a night of jealously and truth?

The Truth About Love is set in 1958 Philadelphia. One hot summer, on the idyllic Penn campus, Rachel sees Mark and Mark sees Rachel and they fall in love. But for Rachel, “the truth” about love is that it makes her see only a beautiful light at the end of a tunnel, not the locomotive speeding towards her. Christine Simpson directs.
