About This Show

St. Bartholomew’s Church presents a reading of Ryan’s Light,
a play about teenage AIDS activist Ryan White, by Bradford Harlan, on World
AIDS Day, Wednesday, December 1.

The play is about the life and times of Indiana teenager Ryan White who
contracted AIDS in 1984 through contaminated blood products used to treat
his hemophilia. He was barred from school, then successfully challenged his
school board for the right to attend classes and became a reluctant
celebrity. The one act play, which serves as a vehicle for AIDS awareness,
enforces Ryan White’s own perspective: that “AIDS is spread by ignorance.”

A portion of the proceeds for this production will be donated to a local
pediatric AIDS organization.
