About the Show

Six provocative new works from the Hourglass Solo Lab, including BabyLove, voted Best in Fringe, 2006 San Francisco Fringe.

The Hourglass Group Solo Lab serves a diverse community of women writer-performers in New York City by providing resources to support the development of their work. Hourglass’s Artistic Director Elyse Singer, who has directed numerous solo plays over the past 13 years, initiated the program in 2005 in response to a need she perceived within the company’s artistic community. A number of women artists associated with Hourglass had independently started to develop provocative new solo projects, but expressed the challenges of creating new work by oneself. Some of these pieces had been developed on the company’s annual Summer Retreat and playwriting classes; the Lab created a structure through which these artists could cultivate their plays.
