Petronelia: Her Broadway Cho’

About the Show

BAAD! The Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance presents Elizabeth “Macha” Marrero in Petronelia: Her Broadway Cho’. This is the fourth one-woman comedic show from the hyperactive, bilingual mind of Ms. Marrero who has worked with choreographer Arthur Aviles as her director.

Through her four shows, Elizabeth Marrero has created enough characters to fill an entire South Bronx apartment complex. One of her favorite recurring characters is Petronelia, the quintessential, Latino, ghetto matriarch. In Marrero’s latest creation, which cleverly uses video along with live performance, Petronelia gets a ‘Broadway’ gig, wakes up late for her opening and sets out on a quest to get to the theatre. Along the way we meet a cast of characters which include Dicky DoLittle, a Latino lounge singer turned theatre producer; a grumpy elf who quit Santa’s workshop to work as a stagehand in “the theater”; Willy Guiso Jugo, a self-proclaimed urban stud who is going to his first Broadway show to see his neighbor, Petronelia, perform and Daniah, his sister who is the personification of politeness and culture. Petronelia ultimately makes it to the show to perform her big number, and then takes everyone to the after party where Macha performs in her honor.

No performance Friday, December 3.
