New York City
Petition for an Alien Fiance
Steve and Marie Sgouros Theatre at The Players Theatre, Off-Off-Broadway
Petition for an Alien Fiance is a hot new production going up in the New York City Fringe Festival. It’s about a young lesbian couple-Silvia, a Canadian food stylist, and Amber, a high powered Manhattan animal rights lawyer-who concoct an elaborate heist to secure an alien fiancé visa so that Silvia can stay in the states. The play explores the harsh realities of testing the limits of international love, the experience of being a young queer femme couple, and the ultimate toll a high stakes government document has on a relationship (as well as a kickass Madonna soundtrack.) Written by UK playwright Harry Buckoke, the play stars Claire Horn as Amber (she’s Canadian in real life), Elizabeth Conway as Silvia (a born and bred New Yorker in reality and also yours truly), Rowan Spencer as their roommate, Saul (he’s from California, so there’s that,) and is directed by newcomer Elizabeth Groth.
