About This Show

A celebration of life, love and the bonds of family, Mame revolves around the antics of Mame Dennis, a wealthy eccentric with a flair for life and a razor-sharp wit. Mame’s bohemian life is suddenly disrupted when her brother dies, leaving her to raise his 10-year-old boy. What follows is a series of comic adventures as Mame loses her fortune in the stock market crash, makes a disastrous foray into show business, meets and marries a Southern aristocrat and later faces life as a wealthy widow. Her biggest challenge comes when her nephew becomes engaged to an empty-headed debutante. Watch Mame face all that life throws at her with an irrepressible sense of humor and style, all set to a hit-filled score by Jerry Herman.

Now entering its 84th season, Blue Hill Troupe, Ltd. (http://www.bht.org), is the only musical theater group in New York City to donate its net proceeds to charity. Blue Hill Troupe produces a musical every fall and a Gilbert & Sullivan operetta every spring and has raised, to date, more than $3 million.

The Blue Hill Troupe’s 2007-2008 productions will benefit Covenant House New York Infant/Toddler Center (ITC) (http://www.covenanthouseny.org). ITC is designed to assist the mothers in the Rights of Passage Program, a transitional living facility, with the daily responsibilities of raising a child in order for them to obtain employment, further their education, and develop the necessary skills to become self-sufficient and independent.

There is a special pre-show event on November 7, starting at 6:30, that features Amber Edwards, producer/director of Words and Music by Jerry Herman, a 90-minute documentary airing on PBS in January, 2008. Joining Ms. Edwards will be original Broadway cast members Sheila Smith and Randy Phillips, and original musical director Donald Pippin. Admission is free with the price of a ticket to any performance.
