About This Show

War, social inequality, and the solution to them both: sex. These are the themes of Aristophanes’ classic Lysistrata, and though Ashberry Productions’ new adaptation changes many of the words in an attempt to better impact its audience, the spirit and the message remains the same. Lysistrata and her fellow women, sick of the never-ending brutality of the Peloponnesian War, seize the Akropolis and swear off sex until peace is concluded. The Akropolis becomes a crucible for conflicts on many levels, from a single couple wrestling with desire and duty to the gods themselves. In the end will Lysi and her women withstand the men’s attempts to reclaim power? Can mankind ever stop fighting? How will audience members react to large phalluses pointed at them? These are just some of the questions we aim to explore in this hilarious and powerful adaptation. Witness the madness. Bring your libido.
