Lower East Side Woyzeck
$5.00 - $15.00
The new take on Georg Buechner’s Woyzeck sets a new translation of the whirling fragments of this play in today’s Lower East Side. Taking its cue from the cuts, razors, and knives in the text and the lack of a distinct order for the scenes in this unfinished play, the audience determines the sequence of the scenes, cutting from one to the other when prompted by the performers. Amidst images from the L.E.S, shout out the name of the scene you want to see next (“The astronomical horse!” “What a man!” or maybe “A good murder!”) and watch as Woyzeck becomes overwhelmed by powers of poverty, indifference, violence, and love. Cut from its original context and placed in ours, “Woyzeck” remains sharp.
