About This Show

LOL, Tony Sportiello’s darkly funny tale of dating and deception on the Internet, is served up at this year’s Midtown International Theatre Festival.

LOL (Internet shorthand for “laughing out loud”) is an acerbic cautionary tale in which a man masquerades as a woman in a bi-fem chat room so he can meet with other women, presumably when they are most themselves and not playing games. When this well-meaning but severely misguided casualty of the dating scene finds that his female cover is not only welcome in this particular circle but the focus of amorous attention from one intriguing woman in particular, he carries on his charade, going so far as to enter into a “bisexual” relationship with the victim of his deceit.
