About This Show

hope theatre presents the world premiere of Last Call, a new play by Kelly McAllister that mixes pop culture, the events of 9/11, and sex together for an evening of laughter, intrigue, and joy.

In a small town in California, a disparate group of friends held together by habit gather at the local bar seeking solace from an increasingly troubled world. A crucifix hangs outside the bar wrapped in the American flag. The jukebox plays nothing but ?God Bless America? and other patriotic tunes. The characters discuss the importance of movie quotes, cheat on their spouses, and lie to each other- all in an attempt to give their lives some sort of meaning. David, the prodigal friend who left town years ago, returns from New York a new man after 9/11. A manic existentialist, nudist, and lover of life, he is determined to shake his friends out of their stupor and convince them to join him in his newfound lifestyle. What follows is a contest of wills done in a style described as “one part Chekov, one part Monty Python, and one part Sam Shepard.”
