About This Show

Nicu’s Spoon in association with New York Deaf Theatre present the US premiere of Kosher Harry, written by Nick Grosso, and directed by Stephanie Barton-Farcas and Aaron Kubey.

In the nature of the 2006-2007 Nicu’s Spoon season, highlighting disabilities and the various ways people are disabled, for this ferocious black comedy eight artists will play four roles, in Nicu’s Spoon ‘co-playing’ style.

Set in a kosher deli, Kosher Harry is about the casual racism that plagues our lives. A sarcastic blonde Waitress, a vociferous Cabbie and a partially deaf old Woman sit in a deli, when a stranger arrives who acts as a truth serum on them arousing gossip, taunting and willfully misunderstanding each other — revealing who they really are under their exterior mask.

This fast and furious absurdist comedy explores immigration and racism, sex and sexism, and how we present ourselves to others. The play asks the question: If I take away the face you present to the world — are you then left disabled?
