About This Show

Tom Lee presents the tale of Kaluaiko’olau, a Hawaiian who defied authority to live and die on his own terms. With text based on the words of Kaluaiko’olau’s wife, Pi’ilani, who followed him to Kalalau, a beautiful and remote valley on Kaua’i, the piece is told with kuruma-ningyo style puppets (Japanese wheeled puppet theatre), shadow puppetry and animation designed by Tom Lee. Supported in part by a Jim Henson Foundation Seed Grant.
