About This Show

In Invisible Child, an adult woman, who senses that her need to please others is symptomatic of her self-denial and possibly self-loathing, delves into her past where she discovers the small child who was left behind many years ago. Here is where the patterns of doubt and emotional deprivation that have marked her life find their source, and where a controlling and narcissistic mother looms largest. It is only when she returns to the present that this woman, who is now a female prosecutor on the verge of sending a convicted woman to death row, that she realizes the most heart-wrenching truth of all…to be free of who she was she must free herself from who she has become.

Lisa Barri’s solo play with movement also uses dancers to physicalize the many moods and meanings in this soul-stirring exploration of childhood and self-knowledge.
