Lower East Side Tenement Museum and Big Apple Playback Theatre present Inside the Golden Door: Personal Stories of Immigration, a multi-faceted improvisational theatre piece about immigration.
Bringing its own brand of improvisational storytelling, audience interaction, dance and musical accompaniment to the Tenement Theatre, the Big Apple Playback Company will put its particular brand of entertainment to work, promoting dialogue, building community alliances and entertaining the masses as they do it!
Once in the theatre, an audience member will be picked to tell their life story or immigration experiences which will then be cast and enacted on the spot by the actors and musicians in the company. For this particular show, Big Apple will focus its work on the immigration experience, an experience to which most, if not all, New Yorkers can relate. The improvisational nature of the work insures that no night will ever be the same as any other, and promises challenges for the actors and audiences alike.
