About This Show

Dixon Place’s HOT! Festival, The 10th annual NYC Celebration of Queer Culture, presents Stephen Nisbet in In September, the Light Changes: Fire Island Tales by Andrew Holleran. This solo performance is conceived and directed by Randy Gener. Staged in collaboration with Holleran, this work-in-progress is comprised of two sexy,
provocative stories which describe and envision the
sun-drenched dunes and erotic realm of Fire Island,
then and now. In the first tale, an excerpt from the
novel Dancer from the Dance, Nisbet recreates the
flamboyant character of Sutherland, the sharp-witted
queen of the ’70’s gay circuit scene who takes a
goldenly beautiful young man named Malone under his
wing. In the second tale, set in the mid-1990s and
titled “In September, the Light Changes,” Nisbet
portrays a middle-aged gay man who reflects on the
pursuit of sex, the allures of youth, the perils of
male beauty and the heartrending nature of gay desire
at the end of the Fire Island beach season after Labor
Day.
