Homogenius is back and it’s growing! This third annual celebration of gay and lesbian voices is a two week festival, featuring two programs of short plays that run carefully chosen from submissions coming in from all over the world. This year, submissions came in such high volume that HOMOgenius doubled the number of short plays being produced. The festival’s aim is to teach tolerance, but also to show support to a community of artists that is integral to manhattantheatresource’s continuous development as an organization.
The inaugural festival, which played to sold out crowds, drew a varied list of artists from all walks of life, and a magnificent array of artists from the entirety of New York Theatre Community and beyond, all on the volunteer basis, including lighting designers and set designers — who believed in what manhattantheatresource was trying to create: a festival where serious, original, funny and committed artists from the gay community could find a place to not only show their work, but to come together as a family and grow from the creative process.
