Creole Themed Dinner Theatre Event

Who says Dinner Theatre is dead? Wilson Exclusive Talent Productions, fiscally sponsored by Fractured Atlas, teams up with the Lower East Side’s gallery/bar venue, CULTUREfix at 9 Clinton Street, to bring back the much loved Off Off Broadway Creole historical drama, “Blood Makes The Red River Flow”, with Creole cuisine on July 21,2013 at 4pm.

The story, which opens in 1961 in New Orleans in the green room at a debutante ball then flashbacks to the early 1800’s in western Louisiana on the Red River, is about a naive debutante learning the truth about her heritage and a hidden legacy.

The stage play, “Blood Makes The Red River Flow”, was inspired by its playwright, director, producer Stephanie Lynn Wilson, interviews of Louisiana Creoles while filming her documentary “The Descendants of Africa: Evolution of a People and Culture” . The project was a way to show the diversity within the African Diaspora as well as in Africa, and to build bridges between people. The unique story of the Louisiana Territory, having been a Latin American country surrounded by Anglo America, made for a very different experience for its inhabitants. Stephanie funded the project working three jobs, but had to put the project on hold due to lack of funds. Desperate to tell this important and little known history she wrote the play years later, directing, producing, and playing two main characters in the play.

This fictional spicy tale, based in historical fact, was first performed at Roy Arias Theatre in February 2012 for Black History Month. Due to the audience’s response Stephanie knew she had to continue sharing the story. She decided it would be a good idea to present it as a form of dinner theatre by adding Creole cuisine to the mix. CULTUREfix was more than happy to provide the vittles of a full course meal included in the very reasonable ticket price of $75.00.

Since she plans on continuing to offer her Creole Themed Dinner Theatre at various venues and for groups she decided to name her group of talented actors “The Spicy Thespians”. It includes Christiana Blain, in dual roles as Gabrielle Laviteaux-Montero Jones, and Lizette Laviteaux; Ron Rivera, as the wealthy Spaniard Ferdinand Juan-Carlos Montero; Stephanie Lynn Wilson, in dual roles as Guma, and Yaya; Krystal Hill, as Marie Pollion; Chuk Obasi and Harold Mathieu, as Rebeau; and Al Roffe, as Henri Monet.

Tickets on sale only at Eventbrite and must be purchased by July 7, 2013 due to the small venue’s limited seating, and for dinner prep.
