About This Show

X-plormentals presents the world premiere of Confessions as part of the 10th annual New York International Fringe Festival.

What happens when our innermost urges turn against our instinct for self-preservation? Witness the whys and hows of confessions — and their dire consequences — in this fresh spin on the Greek Phaedra myth, with a multicultural cast and in a minimalist Chinese theatre style that explores the innermost, uncontrollable human desires.

This show takes Phaedra’s dilemma and struggle — how to handle an irresistible, taboo obsession that will destroy her life and the people around her — as a motif to explore how we deal with our uncontrollable, oftentimes not accepted desires and the consequences after we decide to confront them. The audience will see that in the show not only Phaedra but also every character goes through this soul-searching process. Although the confessions eventually take the lives of several characters, the ending aspires to evoke catharsis.
