Shiny silver scissors, glistening against a scenic landscape of red fabric, peppered with intense physical motion — this sets the tone for Butterflies from My Hand. Donna Uchizono’s new piece examines the idea of “surrender” through movement, resistance, power, and loss. Utilizing striking visual imagery to guide its kinetic direction, Butterflies creates an atmosphere permeated with bold gestures and layered fragility. It poses provocative questions about the possibiliites vulnerability offers and the power gained through the act of letting go. Uchizono is joined by a remarkable team of collaborators — composer Guy Yarden, lighting designer Stan Pressner, costume designer Wendy Winters, and dancers Levi Gonzalez, Carla Rudiger, Hristoula Harakas, and Andrew Clark.
