New York City
Security check points surround the “The Most Precious Kingdom of the World.” An army force patrols the desert, ready to imprison & deport those who attempt to immigrate. Unable to comply with the country’s standards of beauty and fashion, newcomers are left barefoot at the border in a measure to protect the country from negative foreign influence.
Venezuelan playwright, Pablo Garcia-Gámez, offers one of the most mordacious visions of discrimination on the Hispanic American stage with Blanco. Frontiers determine who has rights and who doesn’t. Rejection in personal relationships is shown with a clever and sharp humor. Several of García-Gámez’s plays have been produced in New York, including his critical success In Paper Boat: Hostos, based on the life and legacy of educator and philosopher Eugenio María de Hostos.
