belly: three shorts is a trilogy of related shorts about the inner lives of women (brown, Asian, Caucasian) in the past, present and next millenium, in which real acts of violence are juxtaposed against the act of giving birth. belly navigates the intersections of violence, rape and motherhood and addresses the way we try to control women’s reproduction, and the profound impact those attempts can have on women’s lives. Alva Rogers’ work addresses social issues in a nonrealistic manner and it has a visceral, almost sensuous effect on an audience. Presented by New Georges.
