About This Show

CAP21 presents the Spring, 2004 Barbara Wolff Monday Night Reading Series, including three new works and one old favorite.

March 22
The Whispers of Saints, by Mark Scharf, directed by Eliza Ventura
The play explores a mother-daughter relationship thrown into painful conflict with the presence of the mother’s much younger lover. Set on the shores of the ocean, the play examines the destructiveness of intolerance, it’s beginning in the family, and that sometimes it is the younger generation who is inflexible and judgmental

March 29
An Untitled New Musical, with music by Steven Schoenberg, book & lyrics by Diane Seymour, and musical direction by Bob Billig

When a frustrated, out-of-favor London portrait painter is lured to the English countryside in the late 1880’s to undertake a much-needed commission, he expects little more than fair payment. Yet, once the unsuspecting artist arrives at the mysterious 17th century Ashford Hall and meets its unhappy master and his exotic, preoccupied wife, he finds intrigue and inspiration beyond his imagining. In this romantic musical ghost story, appearances, indeed prove deceptive, characters grapple with questions of identity and love, and nothing is truly as it seems.

April 12
Six of One, a musical with music by Paul Loesel, book & lyrics by Scott Burkell, directed by Frank Ventura
This new musical is being developed at CAP21. Six characters in 2004 Manhattan are redefining themselves and recreating the world that they live in. Love, loss, change, and rebirth

April 26
