BAAD! – The Bronx Academy of Art & Dance triumphantly announces BAAD! ASS WOMEN 2005, the fifth anniversary of a cultural festival that celebrates the empowerment of women. The festival will open with an art exhibit, and continue with 8 evenings of theatre, dance, performance, documentary film and literature.

THURSDAY, MARCH 10 at 8pm (Free)
LIT! Putting the Fire in Women’s Literature: Women novelists share their works and their personal stories about writing books and getting them published. With Black Artemis and Raquel Rivera, plus two other writers. The panel will be moderated by Marcela Landres, editorial consultant and former editor with Simon and Schuster.
SATURDAY, MARCH 12 at 8pm ($12)
Theatrical Thunder!: Three playwright/performers will create thunderous laughter applause with their vibrant works. Desi Moreno-Penson brings her signature tour de force monologue A Latina Prepares about a Latina actress enduring the slings and arrows of outrageous casting. Dancer, writer, and performer Dawn Crandell brings the electric Stripped and Layered about an ex-stripper’s soul searching that unravels the complexities of art, class, race and the sex industry; Michele Carlo, popularly know as Carmen Mofongo, brings Red Sheep, a collection of comedic monologues about growing up as a redheaded Nuyorican in 1970s/80s NYC.
FRIDAY, MARCH 18 at 8pm ($12)
Womb-Words, Thirsting by Lenelle Moise: Award-winning writer and performer, Lenelle Moise, a self-proclaimed “hyphenated politicized pomosexual poet,” performs Womb-Words, Thirsting, an autobiographical performance puzzle and word-concert with movement that takes a look back at the roots of her identity construction and she thinks aloud about the labels tacked onto to her body…including Black…Female…Lesbian.
SATURDAY, MARCH 19 at 8pm ($15)
Night of the Blazing Dance-Shees: BAAD! ASS Women dancers and choreographers share an evening of solo and group works that are sizzling with strength, spirit and sass. With choreographers Malinda Allen, Christal Brown, Keila Cordova, Afua Hall, Shizu Homma, Leticia Pliego, Rokafella from Full Circle and the Wonder Twins (Tiffany and Thiama), Charly Wenzel and Laila Sales.
FRIDAY and SATURDAY, MARCH 25 & 26 at 8pm ($15)
The Macha Monologues: Comedienne/Drag King Elizabeth “Macha” Marrero, who the Village Voice compared to John Leguizamo and Eddie Murphy, debuts a whole new show! Get ready for Professor Petronelia’s wild examination of the essential part of a woman’s anatomy while her other zany and lovable characters tackle sex and life. The Macha Monologues will cap off the festival with a closing show on Saturday, March 26 at 8pm
