Chiori Miyagawa adapts Kate Chopin’s 1899 novel Awakening into a dramatic new play. Edna Pontellier is a young married woman and mother of two. Caught in the confines of marriage, She finds herself undeniably attracted to two other men; one is a charming and ambitious young man, while the other is a notorious ladies man. Secondary to the play’s plot, novelist Kate Chopin is portrayed and is a constant presence throughout the performance, providing insight and facts about the creation, execution, and outcome of her last written work. Sonoko Kawahara directs.
