Irony may be dead, but “gayrony” is alive and well. ART JAM helps keep the flame alight. When asked what characterizes “gayrony,” curator/host Earl Dax says, “It’s a post-modern consciousness combined with the lacerating wit that has been associated with gays since at least the days Oscar Wilde.” According to The New York Press, “Promo-trixie Earl Dax’s third Tuesdays at the Galapagos Art Space in Williamsburg are quickly turning into fab confabs of gender-fucking music-oriented performance art; messy nights where caburlesque meets staunch politik-ing.”

Author and performer Mike Albo headlines ART JAM to coincide with the paperback release of his novel, The Underminer. Expect Albo’s signature “best friend who casualy ruins your life,” to turn up blending rapid-fire monologues and ironic dance breaks.

Competing for the title of best parody of cloying musical ensemble, The Overtones feature an all female, all a capella quartet specializing in lesbian anthems by the likes of Melissa Etheridge, k.d. lang, and Ani Difranco. People Lution features an all gay male ensemble that apes the Up With People-type missionary choirs.
