About This Show

9/21/1999 2:00PM: Earthquake devastates island of Taiwan. Thousands killed.

9/21/1999: Manhattanite Will Chen’s world is shaken even worse.

Inspired by real events, And the Earth Moved is a through-the-rabbit-hole journey of self discovery that explores one Asian’s role in the American Experiment. Between clairvoyant 18-year-old truants, eccentric cross-dressing restaurateurs, and The First Chinese Pentacostal Church of Harlem Gospel Choir, everyone Will meets has something to teach him. But does he have anything to learn?

This stimulating and fascinating new musical is based on 24 hours in the real life of the writer when he was left in limbo not knowing whether his parents were alive or dead. A finalist for the 2004 National Music Theater Network’s New Voices Prize and for Arielle Tepper’s “SPF” Summer Play Festival, And The Earth Moved has already made a stir. Come take this journey into the bizarre, wonderful world of Manhattan through the eyes of one Asian-American in search of -himself. Featuring book, music, and lyrics by Timothy Huang.
