About This Show

TeatroStageFest features the New York premier of Aiguardent, the bravura solo dance-theater performance conceived and performed by Catalan dancer Marta Carrasco. In the Catalan language of Spain, Aiguardent means “brandy.” In the show, fragility and weakness lead the character to excesses that are diametrically opposed. Aiguardent is a journey into human solitude, fueled by anger and innocence. Carrasco, whom The Chicago Sun-Times calls “both diva and comedian, athlete and balletic vaudevillian” presents her critically acclaimed solo work, combining dance, theater and music into one extraordinary experience.

Ms. Carrasco’s extensive career has led her original creations to be presented at international theaters around the world and she has been the recipient of many prestigious awards, including two Premios Max de las Artes Escénicas (Spain’s equivalent to a Tony Award) and the “Public Award” in 2007, the top honor from the City of Barcelona.

TeatroStageFest is an artistic, cultural and educational celebration, set against the backdrop of New York City that spotlights center-stage Latino theater artists from New York, the Caribbean, Latin America, and Spain. TeatroStageFest features three international and four local theater productions, six Artists Panels featuring Latino theater professionals, Intimate Concerts with singers/songwriters, and a playwrighting competition for New York City high school students.
