About This Show

Shakespeare’s classic comedy comes to life under the direction of Lon Blais.

Problems begin when Egeus orders his beautiful daughter Hermia to marry Demetrius. While Demetrius is more than happy to oblige, Hermia is in love with Lysander, a feeling Lysander enthusiastically reciprocates. Faced with the choice of marriage to Demetrius, death, or life in a convent, Hermia flees with Lysander into the nearby forest. In hot pursuit are Demetrius and his former lover Helena, who still carries a torch for him.

In the forest the quartet unknowingly encounter Oberon and Titania, the feuding King and Queen of the Fairies. Wanting to teach Titania a lesson, Oberon orders his servant Puck to place a potion in Titania’s eyes so she will fall in love with the first person she sees. However, Puck ends up giving the potion to the wrong person (several of them in fact), creating some unexpected complications. There’s also a group of working-class folk about, preparing to stage a play in honor of the Duke of Athens’ wedding, that get also caught up in the shenanigans. Can everything be sorted out in time for the traditional “happily ever after?” Well, this is a fantasy after all; as well as one of the most popular plays in the Shakespeare canon.
