About This Show

Twenty years after Sam Shepard won critical acclaim for this riveting work — which the playwright himself describes as “a love ballad…a little legend about love,” — thriftshop theatre workshop promises to revive the dysfunction, passion and madness that pervades A Lie of the Mind. In short, it’s the story of two American families, complete with dysfunction and dark humor. But the subsequent rifts and fusion of eight characters correspond brilliantly with modern, mythical things like broken American dreams, even a divided America. A Lie of the Mind is as powerful in 2006 as it was in its 1985 debut.
