About this show

LAST CHANCE TO SEE THE MILLINER - FINAL WEEK! "a delicate new play..." "provides a nuanced perspective on a moment in history..." "particularly good..." -- NY Times "First-rate cast... Every scene packs a wallop." -- BackStage "Intriguing, Gripping and Mighty Impressive." -- Variety The Directors Company in association with Milliner productions presents the world premiere of The Milliner, a new play by Suzanne Glass. Novelist Glass, the best-selling author of The Interpreter (credited in the film of the same name), makes her theatrical debut with this new drama. The production is directed by internationally acclaimed British Mark Clements with an exciting cast headed by Michel Gill, and music direction by Warren Wills. Set in pre- and post war London and Berlin, The Milliner is drawn in part from the author's own family experience, and told against the background of Berlin cabaret music of the time. On one level, it is the story of a Jewish hatmaker's passionate involvement with an alluring German nightclub singer. On another, it is a haunting and ever-relevant tale of longing for one's homeland and the universal need to belong. With a Cambridge University Honours Degree in languages, Suzanne Glass is a wordsmith. The first of her two internationally acclaimed novels, The Interpreter, was inspired by her early career as a multi-lingual simultaneous interpreter. Her second novel, The Sculptors (Random House UK), revolves around an Israeli female plastic surgeon and an Egyptian sculptor. Glass gained recognition as a journalist with in-depth interviews with Netanyahu, Rabin, Giuliani and others, published in the major UK broadsheets The London Times, Independent and Guardian. Her popular lifestyle column "The Looking Glass" ran for several years in the Financial Times. Wheelchair accessible. Please call 212-246-5877.
