If This Hat Could Talk

About the Show

Women may have once been the unsung heroines of the Civil Rights Movement, but they’re finally getting their melodic tribute with If This Hat Could Talk, a musical celebration. Written and directed by Tony and Emmy Award winner George Faison, the show journeys through conflict and strife, segregation and lynching, as African-Americans attempt over the years to assert their American birthright. Reaching far beyond the Spiritual tradition that conventionally defines the Movement, If This Hat Could Talk underscores the social upheaval with a house-rocking blend of blues, jazz, gospel and rhythm & blues. Music and lyrics are by Joe Coleman, who is also lead vocalist of the Platters.
