American Fables

About This Show

Written by award-winning playwright and screenwriter, Eric Fallen, American Fables is an evening of five short tragicomic plays that explore the complexities of love, war, and miscommunication. In Perfect Weather, a strange woman interrupts Jim’s meditative morning ritual in Central Park, and what begins with small talk about the weather devolves into a chilling interrogation. A small-town library is the setting for Basic Plumbing, where a standoff between an uptight librarian and the town crank shifts from library policy to matters of the heart. In The Fixer, after the FBI raids the office of a powerful lawyer, fixer Ben Gold arrives with his uniquely American brand of Trump-era damage control. Set in a prison cell in an unnamed authoritarian country, Paradise explores the relationship between an interrogator and his foreign subject as suspicion and cultural differences intersect with human desire. The evening concludes with Friendly Fire, the hard-hitting story of a grieving mother whose demands for the truth surrounding her son’s death in combat, result in a revelation that crushes her resolve and captures the chaotic realities of war.
