“There are great and strong voices, big or beautiful voices, but very rarely, there is what can only be described as a magic voice. Frances is one of these rare ones, and the magic seems to lie in the contradiction, she is youthful and wise, vibrant and sad, spontaneous and skilled. Hearing is believing.” — Trevor Nunn, Artistic Director RNT
“Ruffelle is stunning! … An angel with a dirty face, and an unrelenting rock balladeer’s voice.” — Frank Rich, New York Times
“Imagine some inspired cross between Kate Bush, Lisa Stansfield and Liza Minnelli and you still can’t quite describe the ineffable wonder of Frances Ruffelle’s voice. In a world of niffers, screamers, and warblers, Frances is that very rare thing: a real live singer.” — Jason Robert Brown
Direct from London’s Ronnie Scott’s, Daniel Salter presents Tony Award Winner Frances Ruffelle with the George Gee Big Band. In 1985, Frances Ruffelle took the theatre world by storm when she crated the role of Eponine in Les Miserables in London and on Broadway, for which she won the coveted Tony Award, the Helen Hayes Award, Theatreworld Award and Outer Critic’s Circle Award for Best Actress. In 2005, Frances took the jazz and music worlds by storm in a series of sell-out performances at London’s immortal “Ronnie Scotts.” The live recording of this latest event is due for a Summer 2006 release. Along with “her boys,” a 15 piece big-band, Frances Ruffelle is nothing short of stunning. A sensual evening of unsurpassed music.
