About This Show

Recognized nationally for its vital work developing artists and for championing the arts in Brooklyn, BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange’s First Weekends New Performance and Discussion Series is a staple for showcasing emerging artists in New York City. Join BAX for new works by KC Chun-Manning/FRESH BLOOD Productions, Alethea Adsitt and Co., and Jessica Morgan and stay for a provocative post-show discussion with the artists.

Mapping Genesis is KC Chun-Manning/FRESH BLOOD Productions’ self-study venture to map the how and why we become who we become. Part truth, part fairy tale, it dips into the body’s archive, our pre- and formative memories, and the deepest layers of our genetic material. Incorporating both live and recorded song and text, it is a multigenerational piece that intertwines the voices of her alter egos, parents and newborn child.

Jessica Morgan’s Inhibitionist contains experiments in voluntary humiliation. It confronts personal inhibitions and exposes them to express what it truly is to feel vulnerable. It explores the sad, the disgusting and the absurd and how releasing these behaviors in a public setting can be a self-cleansing act.

Alethea Adsitt and Co.’s Empty Room is a magnet, collecting emotional and historical residue, of people and things departed or not yet arrived. A three-dimensional scrapbook of place and person, this new work relates the mystery of absence, a space in transition, through original movement, text and video.
