About This Show

Antonio Zambujo, Portugal’s new male fado sensation, has been a major voice in the resurrection of male fadistas in a realm that has been dominated by females in recent years. Dedicated to expanding the horizons of traditional fado, he has merged fado with cante alentejano, a traditional male chant from southern Portugal influenced by North African traditions, and popular Brazilian music. Antonio first garnered national fame with his role of Francisco da Cruz, Amália Rodrigues’s first husband, in the blockbuster musical Amália in Lisbon and on tour, and later won the Amália Rodrigues Foundation prize for the Best Fado Male Singer.
