About the Show

Eidolon presents its Summer Season 2006 at The 92nd Street Y, Buttenwieser Hall, 2nd Floor. Eidolon, a dance company located in New York City, was established in 1999 to bring dancers, choreographers, and other artists together and to offer dancers a steady performance venue.

Summer Season 2006 features three new pieces choreographed by Melanie Cortier: Dashpot, Polkacello, and Kitchen Sink. Dashpot is an exploration of dampening dancers’ movement by utilizing fabric as the limiting factor. Music by the Thai Elephant Orchestra adds yet further complexity with its arrhythmic and irregular, non-human sound. Polkacello is a comedic piece set to traditional American polka music, following the choices of three women. Kitchen Sink is a different approach to choreography where the dancers choose their own music, costume and style of dance while Ms. Cortier provides the steps. Also featured is a new company premiere by Ginger Thatcher set to the music of Tomaso Albinoni.
