About the Show

Heated Romance on the Eve of World War II…

The rarely-produced Clash by Night is set to open on the New York stage. Last seen on Broadway in 1941, this play explores Clifford Odets’ key dramatic theme of spiritualism versus materialism, and its impact on human relationships. The action takes place on Staten Island on the eve of World War II. A. M. Raychel directs.

For the original production of Clash by Night at the Belasco Theater, The New York Times’ Brooks Atkinson wrote, “Odets writes in top form with honesty, knowledge, and vitality”. Likewise, the theater critic Rosamond Gidder exuded, “Scenes of search and revelation show Odets at his best, proving that Odets still has great creative capacity.” Gabriel Miller, a modern-day Odets biographer, calls this work his “most damning study of human relationships”.

Clash by Night is staged with a cast of seven seasoned actors
including Jeff Auer, Abby Fox, Bob Gallagher, Catherine Gowl, Joshua Kauffman, Richard Pyatt and Bob Wilkens.
